    About Us

Westercon was started in September of 1948 for fans that couldn't afford to travel east for Worldcon. In the 1950's it settled on the current format of a July 4th weekend event that traveled from city to city.

Like Worldcons, Westercons are chosen with a site selection vote and bidding process culminating in a site selection vote. The vote for the 75th Westercon in 2022 will be held at Westercon 73.

    SWOC

SWOC was founded a quarter-century ago as the “Seattle Westercon Organizing Committee”

SWOC is an IRS 501(c)(3) exempt organization whose mission is to promote discussion and appreciation of science fiction and fantasy arts and literature, science education, and related topics through the congregation of fans, lectures, films, exhibitions, workshops, and similar activities. Sponsoring this Westercon is one way that SWOC carries this mission forward.

    Westercon

With over 70 years of history, Westercon is one of the best-known and most traditional science fiction and fantasy gatherings in our culture; we were geeks before geeks were cool. Before most communities had local SF cons, Westercons have been bringing fans together in different cities in the western US and Canada. What distinguishes Westercon from most other events is the quality of activities andparticipants as a result of bringing in some of the most creative people across several states and provinces.
